- Newsweek, in its May 16, 2005 issue, listed Olympic in its “100 Best High Schools in America” list. Olympic came in at #104 out of 27,000 high schools in the country. This national ranking (2004 Challenge Index) is averaged by taking public high schools throughout the country and dividing the number of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) tests taken by the number of graduating seniors.
- Olympic is the magnet school for the Center for Leadership and Global Economics. Students who participate are immersed in a rigorous academic program that prepares them for global citizenship and future leadership roles in their chosen area of concentration. The program includes summer experiences and internships. And, students are also trained in The Seven Habits of Successful Students. (Through a CMS partnership with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, community leaders trained in Covey strategies work directly with students.)
- In May 2005, Olympic was named one of seven high schools in the state to be involved in a new partnership with the New Schools Project and the New Technology Foundation, both of which are funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Olympic will use the planning grant to specifically support the math, science and pre-engineering (enhanced technology) small school that is being developed.
* Honor School of Excellence is the state's highest rating. Schools with this designation met the new federal standards set by the No Child Left Behind Act.
