the Sanctuary Wins Green Award
At the Charlotte Business Journal's annual Green Awards, the Sanctuary won recognition for its environmentally conscious land development.
From the Sanctuary's 200-foot waterfront setbacks – four times the Mecklenburg County requirement – to landscape guidelines that preserve the natural forest to encouraging indigenous landscaping that requires less water, the Sanctuary has taken multiple measures to ensure the conservation of the land around Lake Wylie. And, the community's Builder Guild members are encouraged to construct homes using environmentally friendly practices! Learn more about green building at the Sanctuary. |

Community Connection Beautifies Winget Park Elementary School
Homeowners in the Sanctuary joined students, parents, faculty and Crescent Communities representatives at a Planting Partners event at Winget Park Elementary School on April 25. Students learned about the role planting and landscaping plays in a sustainable environment and planted flowers and native vegetation around the school with help from Smith Grounds Management.
Planting Partners is part of Community Connection, Crescent's new outreach program designed to improve the community at-large. Click here to learn more. |
Only One Waterfront Preserve Remains
Time is running out for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to claim your large Private Preserve at the Sanctuary. Fewer than 25 Preserves remain, with only one waterfront property available. View a site plan of these wooded lots.
The price of raw land has risen dramatically throughout the Charlotte area since the Sanctuary was envisioned, and it is quickly becoming difficult, if not impossible, for a developer to recreate our large-property theme.

Looking for Ways to Conserve Water?
Though recent rain showers have eased the drought condition in Charlotte, the drought has encouraged residents to look at ways to conserve water, which is a good practice at any time! As the weather heats up and residents spend more time out in their yards, here are some ideas to reduce water use outdoors:
- Cover pools and spas. Especially in the warm months of summer, evaporation reduces the water level in outdoor pools and spas. Install a cover on your pool or spa to prevent the water from escaping.
- Use mulch! Mulch provides a moisture-trapping barrier between the soil and the air that will help keep plant roots damp longer.
- Use a broom to clean the driveway. Use a broom instead of a hose to clean your driveway and reduce your water usage.
- Minimize fertilizer use. Fertilizer may help your plants grow, but it also increases the water consumption of the soil. Use a minimal amount of fertilizer on your plants.
