the Sanctuary's Lake Communities: Ideally located by Charlotte

Residents of this beautiful lake community enjoy close proximity to everything from grand luxuries to small conveniences. Two of the nation's largest banks, Bank of America and Wachovia, call Charlotte "home," which makes Charlotte the second largest banking center in the United States, behind New York. And, uptown Charlotte -- which offers a host of the city's best eateries, entertainment venues and cultural attractions -- is less than 20 minutes from the Sanctuary.

Easy access to uptown and other areas of Charlotte is nearby; the community is less than three miles from I-485, six miles from I-77 and nine miles from I-85. Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is 11 miles north of the Sanctuary.

Schools
School-aged children living at the Sanctuary may attend classes at Charlotte-Mecklenburg public schools or a wide selection of excellent private schools.

Shopping and Convenience

  • RiverGate, a 600,000-square-foot shopping center, is about four miles from the Sanctuary. Tenants include SuperTarget, Home Depot, Best Buy, Marshalls, PetSmart, among other stores, eateries and services.

  • A multitude of grocery stores, drug stores, dry cleaners, banks, video stores and a wealth of restaurants are less than a 10-minute drive from the Sanctuary, including Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter, Wal-Mart Supercenter, Blockbuster Video, Caribou Coffee, Starbuck’s Coffee and more.

  • The nearby Ballantyne area offers shopping, dining and recreational venues in Ballantyne Commons shopping center, as well as StoneCrest at Piper Glen, with Alcoves home furnishings and accessories; Chico’s; DeWoolfson Down, a linens emporium; Voci Spa; and Regal 22 Cinemas. A special "Children's Village" features such shops as Learning Express, EB Game World and Vision Dance Studio. Restaurants include Firebirds Rocky Mountain Grill, Cantina 1511 and Miro Spanish Cuisine.

  • A 20-minute dirve from the Sanctuary, SouthPark is one of North Carolina's largest malls, offering several department stores, including Nordstrom’s, Neiman Marcus and Belk, as well as kate spade, Tiffany’s, Burberry, Pottery Barn, COACH, Sur la Table and many more. Crate & Barrel opened its first Charlotte store in front of the mall.

  • Carolina Place mall in Pineville (about 15 minutes from the Sanctuary) features more than 100 stores including Belk, Dillards, J.C. Penney, Hecht's and Sears.

Arts, Culture and Entertainment
Recently recognized as one of the most liveable cities in the world for its commitment to arts and cultural development, Charlotte offers a multitude of cultural opportunities and venues for residents, including:

Tthe ImaginOn complex in uptown Charlotte opened in 2005 and is the first of its kind in the country, combining the facilities of a children’s library with the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.

Recreation

  • Those who enjoy a day on the lake have plenty of options on Lake Wylie. The Camp's boating center offers canoes, kayaks and deck boats for resident use and small sailboats can be launched from the boating center. Copperhead Island, the nearest public boat launch, is two miles from the Sanctuary, and Lake Wylie Marina is located at the Buster Boyd Bridge about six miles from the community.

  • Outdoor lovers can enjoy hiking on the Sanctuary's 20 miles of nature trails or in nearby Crowders Mountain State Park or South Mountains State Park. The Blue Ridge Parkway in western North Carolina is a refreshing day trip.

  • Five minutes from the Sanctuary, the Town of Ayrsley offers the Steele Creek Family YMCA. A recently expanded Morrison Family YMCA is the largest of its kind in the Charlotte area with the most state-of-the-art equipment available in the Ballantyne area, offering a wide selection of youth and adult sports, including soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming and more.

  • Carowinds amusement and water park, uptown Charlotte Arena, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and Cricket Arena offer great entertainment options.
