Hezekiah Alexander House - the oldest surviving home in Mecklenburg County, the Hezekiah Alexander House is home to the Charlotte Musuem of History.

The James K. Polk Memorial is just minutes away in Pineville, on Hwy 521, and features period exhibits and a film on the 11th president.

Historic Latta Plantation is an early 1800's cotton plantation and living history farm located within a 1,343 acre nature preserve. A comprehensive educational program on period life and a nature center, Latta Equestrian Center and the Carolina Raptor Center are all located here, and make this a very popular destination for school-aged children.

In northeast Mecklenburg County, Historic Rosedale Plantation seeks to preserve the architecture, decorative arts and lifestyle heritage of the southern piedmont. Events are scheduled year around.
York County Historic Sites

Historic Brattonsville is a 775-acre living history village and Revolutionary War battlefield. Eight miles of nature paths and a heritage farm program are the main features of this destination.

Kings Mountain National Military Park has a museum and 1.5 mile battlefield trail for self-guided walking tours. Backcountry hikers can enjoy the 2.5 mile Browns Loop Trail, the 3 mile Clarks Creek Trail, or the 16 mile Park Loop Trail year around.
